Networking opportunities at the ERS Congress 2024

The ERS Congress is one of the largest events in the respiratory calendar. It welcomes delegates from around the world, representing all areas of the respiratory field from clinicians and allied health professionals to researchers and patients. This vibrant atmosphere means that as well as being the place to find out about the latest advancements in respiratory medicine and science, it is also the perfect place to connect with people from all around the world, and across the respiratory field.

“Making connections with other researchers and other clinicians in my field through the ERS Congress made a really big difference early in my career.” James D. Chalmers

“My first ERS Congress was a big moment in my career. That was my first time meeting many international experts, and I have since benefitted immensely from their collaboration. 12 years later many of those collaborations are still ongoing.” Subhabrata Moitra

Early career member lunch sessions

Taking place in the World Village, the Early career member (ECM) lunch sessions give members aged 40 and below an opportunity to connect.

On Sunday and Monday, members can attend the assembly lunch sessions to meet their assembly’s ECM representative, discuss how to further get involved in ERS activity, find out about opportunities for career development, and network with other ECMs in their field of expertise.

At Tuesday’s lunch session, ECMs will be introduced to early career members from other national societies and partner societies, to discuss the opportunities for collaboration across organisations.

Take The Active Option at Congress 2024

Take The Active Option at Congress is a fun and social event gathering hundreds of patients and professionals together for a 2.5km walk or 5km run around the beautiful Vienna Prater.

This event was a hugely popular at the 2023 Congress and we expect the same again, so don’t miss your chance to register before the deadline of Monday 8 September.

Take The Active Option at Congress will take place on 10 September at 07:30 CEST.

Assembly members’ meetings

ERS members are invited to join these interactive meetings to get the latest updates from their assembly, including information on funding opportunities, upcoming deadlines and ongoing projects.

These meetings are a chance to network with other members of your specialism, as well as to hear from the assembly leadership team.

All assembly members’ meetings will take place from 17:15–18:45 on 10 September; select ‘Assembly members’ meeting’ from the ‘Types’ drop-down menu on the online programme for more information.

Patient community space

Visit the Patient community space opposite the European Lung Foundation (ELF) stand in the World Village for patient networking sessions. At 15:00 on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, delegates can meet patient organisations from across Europe and the globe, hear talks on patient-focused projects, and find out how to engage patients in activities. Outside of these sessions, delegates can come to the World Village at any time during Congress to connect and network with patients, and visit the ELF stand to meet the team.

Session details and patient organisations will be confirmed closer to Congress, so visit the ELF stand in the World Village at Congress to find out more.

Women’s networking brunch

The women’s networking brunch, taking place as part of the Wednesday special programme, will be a platform for respiratory professionals to connect, build relationships and exchange knowledge and experiences.

Led by ERS leaders Prof. Monika Gappa (ERS President), Prof. Silke Ryan (ERS President Elect), Dr Sara Cuevas Ocaña (Early Career Members Committee Chair) and Prof. Hilary Pinnock (Education Council Chair), it will encourage collaboration among women in respiratory medicine, foster partnerships and teamwork and the sharing of ideas and best practice.

The session will also signpost to career development resources, mentorship programmes, leadership discussions and highlight the importance of diversity and inclusion in respiratory care.

Meet with respiratory societies from around the world

Many of our partner respiratory societies will be represented in the World Village, with stands giving information and representatives from all organisations available to answer your questions.

Many of these organisations will also have allocated sessions in the World Village auditorium, giving an introduction to the organisation and their work, as well as an opportunity for delegates to meet and ask questions. Come along to the World Village and make connections from around the world, across the field of respiratory medicine.

Poster sessions

Poster sessions see abstract authors presenting their up-to-date research in-person, and in poster format. The abstracts presented cover all areas of respiratory medicine and science, and allow for direct discussion of new data with researchers.

Poster sessions will run throughout the Congress, from 8:00–14:00, Sunday to Tuesday. Select ‘Poster sessions’ from the ‘Types’ drop-down menu on the online programme for a full list of abstracts that will be presented.
