Q: As Head of Assembly 9, what are you most looking forward to about this year’s ERS Congress?
I’m most looking forward to the opportunity to meet with our Assembly members and network. On Tuesday, we have a special Assembly members’ meeting from 17:15–18:45, followed by an Assembly 9 reception and networking event at 19:30 in the center of Vienna. I recommend registering for this event beforehand, as capacity is limited and tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Q: What in your opinion will be the hot topics for Allied respiratory professionals?
This year’s congress is packed with exciting sessions. In addition to our Assembly’s thematic poster sessions and oral presentation sessions on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday some standout events include:
Saturday: The second part of the Academy of Pulmonary Rehabilitation, where participants can gain hands-on skills in advanced assessment and treatment methods in pulmonary rehabilitation. This course will be taught by a renowned faculty of experts from around the world.
Saturday: Postgraduate Courses – Cardiopulmonary exercise testing to evaluate unexplained breathlessness and Interpretation of lung function results in adults and children.
Monday: Skills workshops on Practicalities of spirometry and whole-body plethysmography and Interpretation of cardiopulmonary exercise tests.
Monday: Mini symposium on Telerehabilitation for chronic respiratory diseases
Tuesday: Two symposia organised by our Assembly: Behaviour change and self-management in chronic respiratory disease and The physiology and psychology of complex breathlessness. Another symposium that will attract interest is Pulmonary rehabilitation: global adaptation and implementation, aligning with the congress theme.
Q: Tell us your top three picks from the Congress programme?
It’s tough to choose, but here are my top three:
1. Mini symposium: Telerehabilitation for chronic respiratory diseases
Monday, 15:30–17:00
2. Symposium: Behaviour change and self-management in chronic respiratory disease
Tuesday, 08:30–10:00
3. Mini symposium: The physiology and psychology of complex breathlessness
Tuesday, 10:15–11:45
These sessions are not only timely but also incredibly relevant to the evolving needs and interests of our members. I encourage everyone to attend and participate actively.
